Think and Grow Rich, filled with spiritual principles

I’m re-reading Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” and seeing it with a whole new perspective this time…..it’s filled with spiritual principles of the law of attraction and prosperity.  For example, in the chapter on Organized Planning:  “in the final analysis, both the employer and his employee are employed by the public they serve.  If they fail to serve well, they pay by the loss of their privilege of serving….Every person must be his own salesman of personal services…..To market personal services effectively, one must adopt and follow the “QQS” formula, which means that quality, plus quantity, plus the proper spirit of cooperation, equals perfect salesmanship of service…..Adequacy of quality and quantity of service is not sufficient to maintain a permanent market for your services. The conduct, or the spirit in which you deliver service, is a strong determining factor in connection with both the price you receive and the duration of employment….If one has a personality which pleases, and renders service in a spirit of harmony, these assets often make up for deficiencies in both the quality, and the quantity of service one renders.  Nothing, however, can be successfully substituted for pleasing conduct.”

So, if we take these statements to heart, it should help us all serve our clients/customers better and prosper in our ventures.

Spa massage has come a long way Baby……..

You know, it used to be when you’d mention a spa, you might think Swedish massage, complete relaxation, or maybe pampering.  You might not think serious, therapeutic bodywork and pain relief, or structural work.  In my experience, even though people may be going to a spa for relaxation in general, the type of bodywork they ask for is more geared toward rehab of an injury, pain relief, help with a chronic postural distortion or even recurring pain from repetitive motion.  Spa therapists sometimes get a bad rap as being lazy, or “they just rubbed oil on me” but, believe me, there are some very proficient therapists to be found in spas nowadays!  It is very important to make clear what your goal is for your massage, any medical conditions you may have, joint issues, how you use your body on a daily basis, what kind of sports activity you engage in, anything that might help your therapist understand what your body goes through in your life; then you should be able to get the treatment that you really need and want.  If you don’t, then the therapist isn’t listening to you and has in mind some robotic routine that he/she performs every time.  You have the power to speak up during your session and you should!!!! Don’t endure a massage that is too light, too heavy, not focused on the areas you asked for, or makes you feel uncomfortable in any way.  With these tips, you should be able to enjoy and benefit from your bodywork session, and I always hope you do!!!!!!  Whether it’s relaxation you really need with no talking, or stretching and pain relief, the possibilities are unlimited when it comes to “massage”.  Also, for your protection, you should always visit a licensed massage therapist, otherwise, you don’t know what you might be in for!!!!!!   I hope this information is helpful and I hope you want to go get a massage!!!!!

Here’s to awakening to our authentic selves, seeking and living our purpose in this life, right here and now!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, GOOD HEALTH, PROSPERITY AND JOY IN EXPLORING THE MYSTERIES OF LIFE!!!!!  I intend to continue my journey of adventure and embrace the learning in every day!

PEACE STARTS WITH EACH OF US!!! Let’s make it a wonderful, peaceful, loving year!

It is the Season of Light!!!!!

What a wonderful message yesterday at the Center for Spiritual Living in Ft. Lauderdale, delivered by Rev. Amy Carole Webb; no matter what specific holiday/holy day you celebrate at this time of year, it’s about the LIGHT!!!!!! It’s about the winter solstice, the celebration of the light, the return of the sun, the return to longer days and shorter nights. The celebration of the solstice was the original celebration at this time of year, all the religious holidays are centered around this phenomenon. This time of the year is for all seekers of light, no matter which holiday you choose to honor and observe. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL AND MAY YOUR BE FILLED WITH AWAKENKING AND LIGHT!!!!!!!

Just when I thought the lesson was, I need to work for myself~~

“The biggest mistake that you can make is
to believe that you are working for somebody else.
Job security is gone. The driving force of a career
must come from the individual. Remember: Jobs are owned by the company, you own your career!”
— Earl Nightingale: was an American motivational speaker and author

Just when I thought one of the big lessons of my journey of late was that I need to work for myself, I get this Motivational Quote of the Day from Earl Nightingale! Ok. I get it, sort of, whether we are truly self employed, or feel that we work for someone else, I guess his point is, we ARE WORKING FOR OURSELVES!!!!!! Yes, we really are working for ourselves, the vehicle doesn’t really matter. We really work for ourselves is the bottom line. This puts a whole new twist on the conversation, doesn’t it? It’s how you think about your job that matters, do you consider yourself to be in bondage to the boss, or the company, or are you doing what you love and someone else is giving you the vehicle to do that job that you love? Very interesting perspective…….isn’t life grand????

Patience is more than a virtue……

I am reading a wonderful book called ” The Art of Uncertainty” by Dennis Merritt Jones; it came into my life at precisely the Divine right time! I not only appreciate it because it is in line with my spiritual philosophy, but it fits the time in my life where I have embarked on a new adventure into the unknown, moving from Phoenix to Miami. I felt like a stranger in a strange land for the first couple of months, and know I was being resistant to everything that was so new and completely different from my life in Phoenix and the west. As people say here, being in Miami is almost like living in the United States!! It’s true, it’s like a foreign country in many aspects. I had to change my attitude and perspective, after all, I volunteered for this big change and I need to embrace everything in the experience! So to the patience part; the chapter in the book about patience being more than a virtue, it is a way of life; now, more than at any other time of year, we all need to strive to have patience. It’s post Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas holiday time again, and everybody seems to be in such a hurry, rushing, rushing, rushing!!!! I have never seen such impatient drivers as there are here in the Miami area. I even saw someone honking at an ambulance the other day!! REALLY PEOPLE??????? No wonder car insurance is so high here, the driving is crazy!! Can we all just breathe, slow down and have some consideration for others? Is that too much to ask?? God forbid you should not already be out into the intersection when the light turns green, the honking!!!! I feel bad for the many elderly drivers here, they must be so intimidated. You know I for one, did not participate in the Black Friday madness, who needs that? Where’s the love? It’s the time of the year for PEACE AND JOY!!!!!! Start by showing yourself some and then share it with everybody else, PLEASE!!! Peace, love and patience, as a dear friend always signs his emails! Maybe I’m just not cut out for this fast paced life down here, but all we have is the present moment, so try to enjoy it!! RELAX AND GET A MASSAGE!!!!!

Cultivating an attitude of Gratitude…….

The more we express gratitude for all the good in our lives, the more we get!!! You may have heard this said in many different ways, but it’s as simple as that. It’s important to be grateful for what we have and not focus on what we don’t. Lack begets lack, gratitude brings more of the good, that’s how the Law of Attraction works, and it is a law. I’m grateful to be near the beach in my new life in Florida, such a powerful, awesome display of nature, I always feel so invigorated and alive after walking in the wet sand through the water…..what great exercise and communing with God. Thank you LIFE for this new tropical adventure, I am learning to embrace everything that is so new and different, and that’s what I came here for!
What are you grateful for on this Thanksgiving, 2011?? Being grateful can change how you feel and definitely changes your attitude and perspective on everything. So instead of complaining, just say thank you!

Let’s examine self responsibility…….

My spiritual philosophy is all about self responsibility, no matter how many ways you’ve heard it: what you reap is what you sow; for every action there is a reaction; the law of cause and effect; for every choice we make there is a consequence, you choose whether it will be positive or not so desired……it all adds up to the same thing. We have the power of choice and free will. This is not only true in our daily lives, but also in bodywork. I recently had a massage guest who did not disclose something to me that led to her stopping the treatment after less than five minutes. I actually could tell this woman was all about drama from the minute I met her. I knew I had to stay calm, listen and just try to help her relax. I even told her I had a hot, wet towel I could put on her face to help her calm down and she seemed to like the idea. I applied the barber wrap and began to gently compress and massage her face when suddenly she said, “oh no, now you did it. you moved my contact lense up into my eye socket and now it will be stuck up there, and my husband is the only one that can get it down.” I asked her why she didn’t mention this, and she said, “this happened the last time I had a massage too; the therapist never asked if I wore contacts and the same thing happened.” BIG RED FLAG!!!!! She proceeded to defend the hard contact lense and said she’d been dealing with this for over ten years! Really?? Suffice it to say, she said she couldn’t have the massage now, got up, asked me to take her to the bathroom so we could find some light and a mirror, continued going on and on about how she wouldn’t be able to see for the rest of her stay and should never have made this stop on her trip in the first place. Do you see how her attitude brought this all on? She wanted me to be upset, apologetic and sympathize with her about how “terrible” this was…..nope, not goin’ there. She could have avoided this entire incident had she disclosed to me that this could happen and to not go near her eyes at all, instead, she wanted me to take the blame for her discomfort and being “victimized” by yet another unsuspecting massage therapist.
I had the appointment cancelled and wiped her energy off of me and my schedule on the computer. I hope she had a pleasant trip back to Utah, which I doubt she did, and her husband was able to fix the contact problem when she got home. I can only imagine what she has said about me to him, her doctor and who knows how many others.
Hopefully she learned something from this, but I’m not responsible whether she did or not.
Massage therapists, doctors, any kind of service providers are not mind readers. Disclosing personal or medical information is YOUR responsibility and that’s what I have to say about that! Don’t continue being a victim and blaming the world for something that you could have prevented in the first place.

Here come the Holidays, again!

Since my blog post about holiday stress seems to be so popular, I thought I’d update it!  Here it is October, and we are already starting to see ads for what we should be buying for holiday gift giving! Really?? Please! If you are involved in social media outlets, you probably have seen posted comments about “our consumer society” and “consumer spending” traits.  Are we still such sheep that we fall prey to ad campaigns urging us to buy this or that, and that you can’t possibly live without this new, hot item? Come on, who has money to waste on things that we don’t need? Do we have no discipline? Just because someone says we should buy this gadget or you have to have such and such to fit in, we have to spend money on it, most of us don’t even have?? Personally, my family agreed years ago that we would not participate in this practice, most of us don’t even send cards either.  How about phone calls, or maybe giving to a charity instead? If you love buying gifts for others, knock yourself out, but don’t do it to gain favor or because you think you have to; that makes you feel worse in the long run.  Let people know you care, that doesn’t take an expensive gift, how about saying “thank you” or “I love you”. Just something to consider…….
